Students of DBA, UAP participated in a Training Program on “Project Financing Procedure” by BDBL Training Institute

 

On August 1, 2019, a group of 38 students of Capital Budgeting course of the Department of Business Administration (DBA) of University of Asia Pacific (UAP) participated in a training program on “Project Financing Procedure.” The program was organized by Bangladesh Development Bank Limited (BDBL) Training Institute located in Kawran Bazar, Dhaka. The purpose of this visit was to enhance the students’ knowledge of the subject matter and bridge the gap between theory and practice. The group was headed by the course instructor, Imroz Mahmud, Assistant Professor, DBA, UAP.

At the beginning of this program, Mr. Patit Chandra Barik, Deputy General Manager of BDBL gave an overview of the loan disbursement process. From loan application to disbursement, the entire process was briefly described in this session. The following trainer, Mr. Kabir Ahmed, Assistant General Manager of BDBL discussed in detail the feasibility study of a project. He also outlined the key elements to look into a potential borrower for smooth recovery of a loan. According to Mr. Kabir Ahmed, lack of working capital, dishonest sponsor, the structure of the management, wrong valuation, adverse environment, over financing as well as under financing were the primary reasons of loan default.

The following session was jointly conducted by Md. Arifuzzaman, Principal Officer, BDBL and Mohammad Jahidul Islam, Principal Officer, BDBL. A case study of a foundry project, financed by BDBL, was presented in this session. From cash flow forecasting to risk analysis, the entire project evaluation process was demonstrated by the trainers. The session ended with responses to students’ queries by the trainers.

At the end of the program, Mr. Imroz Mahmud, Assistant Professor, DBA, UAP handed over the crests to the trainers. A training program like this stimulated the students to apply their mental faculty, rather than memorizing ability, to analyze a business situation, he added. The program concluded with vote of thanks by Mr. Imroz Mahmud.
